We are hearing today that Randy Moss Motorsports has shut down its #81 Camping World Truck Series team effective immediately due to lack of funding. The team, which has been running with David Starr this season, had only partial sponsorship to begin the season. We are also hearing that several employees have been laid off, including crew chief Doug Wolcott.
There have been a ton of rumors floating around about RMM in the last several weeks, many of them mentioning a possible merger or sale of the team. Mike Skinner’s #5 truck has full sponsorship for the season from International Trucks, Monaco Coaches, Exide, and PC Miler but Starr only had a partial deal with Zachry.
Through 16 races this season, Starr is ninth in CWTS points with 6 top tens and has an average finish of 13.2. We’ll keep you posted if we hear any more.

Wow. That is sad news. Makes you wonder how many teams are fiscally stable enough to make it.
Wow! 1st the Billy Ballew 15 is cut back to part time! Then the #81 is supposedly shut down! Feel bad for David Starr. Especially after last week, he had such a good run going and then was hit and hit harder. Im with you Keith_Kagee this makes you wonder how many teams are financially stable. And they want to cut Nationwide purses by 20%! Look at this and NASCAR should realize that that is gonna be a mistake! 20 car fields next year! That or a TON of Start and Parks!
I thought Randy would have opened the sport up to a new market but I guess even he couldn’t get new money to come onboard.
Makes me seriously question whether or not the truck series is still a viable thing for NASCAR to continue. I love the racing but when underfunded teams make up a majority of the starters it’s pretty sad.
I just watched Race Hub – unless I misunderstood, Kyle Busch said his truck plans for next year are still up in the air. And he’s second in owner’s points.
This is kind of ridiculous. A 9th place truck driver cannot get sponsorship? But Elliot Sadler (diff series I know), who is 29th has a ride? Somethings really wrong here.
Randy Moss has done nothing for this race team except lend his name. He doesn’t care about this race team. Even Skinner said this weeks ago in Kansas City. I hope david lands somewhere soon.
