BREAKING NEWS: Conway Replaced By Raines At MIS

According to NASCAR’s official Twitter page, Kevin Conway has been replaced on the entry list by Tony Raines in the #34 Front Row Motorsports Ford.  This confirms our information from Monday’s blog post in which we told you that Conway’s job was in trouble.  This news also comes after sponsor Extenze put out a press release denying Conway was being replaced.

No official announcement has come from either the team or the sponsor about the move or whether Raines will continue driving.

According to Lee Spencer/Fox Sports http://msn.foxsports.com/nascar/story/Garage-chatter-Latest-NASCAR-news-and-notes-Michigan-August-2010, ExtenZe is off the car as well.

“We decided to make a driver change,” said Front Row general manager Jerry Freeze. “ExtenZe (Conway’s sponsor) has asked to take a hiatus. They’re taking a break and could be back later this fall.

“Tony is also on the entry blank for Bristol and then we‘ll reevaluate.”

Conway is ExtenZe’s guy, so I cannot blame FRM for doing everything to stay in the top 35. With they have a shot at getting all three teams locked in with the 26′s payroll issues and sponsorship issues for the #7 and #71. Raines has more short-term potential to keep the #34 above the line, even if he only picks up a few extra points each week.

I feel sorry for Conway. For a rookie, he did pretty well, keeping up with his teammates. Hopefully, he’ll get another chance to gain experience in NASCAR, even if ExtenZe does not resurface later this year.

Lets hope the twitter tweet is not how Kevin Conway found outhe was fired. It is bad enough breaking up, or firing someone, by email… but firing them by twitter….

    ps
    yeah yeah.. I know I know.. ; )

Unfortunetely the writing was all over the wall on this one. You saw it coming. Especially with a sponsor like Extenze. How can a male enhancement company be putting millions of dollars into a race team? It was a weird situattion. But what is even weirder is that he will still win Rookie of the Year.

Did Extenze drop Jimmy Johnson too??
