Maybe we'll get to see first hand what happens when a driver gets a DUI -- just had breaking news that Allmendinger got busted for a DUI this morning.

Sorry guys. Late night, I dropped the ball on that question. I swear to you I'm not that stupid. In addition to Jason Ratcliff, I also got the number of wins Kyle has wrong. This will teach me to write while tired (and then not have anyone look over it).

#3 Tom in UK-think of the COT as a spec car, but not all built by the same mfg. The COT is NASCAR’s attempt at a single universal design. Various mfg’s can produce the COT w/ varying assembly methods (robotic vs manual welding, etc), but all have to fit the template and contain the mandated safety devices as specified. Engine blocks and heads begin life from their respective mfgs (ie Ford, GM and Toyota), but teams or engine builders integrate the individuality in assembly but “stay” within NASCARs mandated specs. The COT bodies are kind of like the chassis by the teams in that all have to fit the egg crate template. Only real difference in Toyota, GM and Ford is the headlight decals and shape of the quarter window to look the part of an Impala, Camry or Fusion (or is it Taurus once again?). How the bodies are hung in relation to suspension travel, pitch, yawl and ground clearance…now there is the key. Compare #48 to (42) others.

Being an F1 fan, as am I, you’ll know that F1 has always been about the opposite of spec COT. I was very afraid this year that Bernie & Max were headed in the spec direction. Just hope it never comes to spec-Formula! Still holding my breath on that one…

#19 Amy @ Kyle/Addington-speaking as an outsider, as I don’t know either personally, I venture to say there may be a communication problem developed between the two. Likely neither one forgot how to do their respective job, but just are simply not on the same page. My guess is that Mr. Gibbs, being the experience Championship coach/mgr that he is, recognizes the signs. With no Chase on the line sees the last 5 as an opportunity to reel them both back in.

IMHO Kyle Busch can drive a stock very well. But when I heard the “rumors” of KB as USF1 driver candidate, I have to laugh. KB would be like a “bull in china (Malaysia, Singapore, etc) shop”….and I don’t mean “Red Bull”!

@Neon: I think Wimmer's blacklisting stemmed less from the DUI and more from the embarrassing fact that he hid under the his bed and his wife went nuts. He missed a good opportunity for a Sealy or Serta sponsorship though, eh? "Roomy enough to hide under after a couple of Zimas."

All kidding aside, did anyone see that video of Robby Gordon drinking a beer and then driving off at Dakar? I'm sure Jim Beam wasn't too psyched about that.

@Licker: You'll fit right in with the F1 crowd. You've got the Speedo already! :-)

#21 Robyn: I don't know if NASCAR had a competition caution planned for the truck race or not (I missed most of it because I can only attend one race per weekend with certain people) but the first caution was on lap 32 or thereabouts. Maybe they used this as a competition caution like they did with the early caution in the cup race. The truck guys only had one practice & like you said, the track was green after the rain delay. You'd think there would be a competition caution in there.

@Ross: A proper British accent is part of my new debonair personae that I am developing for when Timothy Peters is driving for Team US F1 in 2010. Please try to develop one also so as not to embarrass me at The Ring next year.

Ross - yes, I think the worst repercussions (I can spell it only after lots of coffee) are from the sponsor side. First, there are typically some pretty broad moral turpitude (I still cannot say that word without thinking about the movie Porky's!) provisions. Second and maybe more importantly, it could mess with your reputation down the road.

Many of you will remember the incident that Scott Wimmer had in 2003/2004. I was talking to some folks that make whiskey...they wanted nothing to do with Scott because of his DUI. They have worked really hard to spread a responsible drinking message and having a driver with a DUI could destroy that or worse, invite a protest from MADD. They liked Scott as a person, thought he had some talent, but they just could not take that risk.

Re #13; As I remember, Dale Sr. was an intimidater because of his continous moving of competitors out of his way. Back in the day, NASCAR allowed him to get away with these tactics, but will not so much now, probably because sponsors will not stand to have their cars off the track due to "rough driving". His car control was very good, which allowed him to not get involved in wrecks when he moved sombody. JPM has already learned how much moving he can do with the current "rules".
