On the subject of start and park. At the inception of the Late Model Sportsman tour (now the Nationwide Series), starting fields were limited to 24 cars. At one point in the 1980's the Cup series only started 36 cars, 32 at short tracks. Even with those small fields there were some-uh-not full time racers running in some races. I wasn't there but I was told Bobby Hillin, Jr. made his cup debut in a race where NASCAR couldn't muster a full 36 car field. So if history is any guide, NASCAR could cut the number of entries and kill off most of the S&P cars, but why should they? 43 entries is better than 36 or 32 by any measure and is certainly better than 24.

Gotta chime in here on WRC and agree 100%. Best action anywhere and no phantom cautions. Maybe if a cow or a nailed spectator gets tossed onto the course they "might" slow down momemtarily. No soft walls either!

And don't forget Marco Martin -- I always thought that was great that he was driving a Ford Focus when Mark Martin was driving Fords for Roush. A parallel universe...

I was surprised that Subaru pulled out but I bet they'll be back if/when the auto industry recovers. You know what they say, "Rally on Sunday, sell on Monday." :-)

WRC was my favorite way to top off a good weekend. It's sad that it's gone downhill but I bet it's cool to watch in HD. Thanks for the heads up on where to find it. I can barely find the remote let alone find a channel way up there on the grid.

Ross: I've never met (well, sorta met) a girl that even knew what WRC was, let alone liked it. This new version of WRC is still really cool, but lacks something with only two manufacturers involved. I miss the days of Tommi Makinen, Marcus Gronholm, Colin McRae (RIP), Carlos Sainz, and Petter Solberg. Those days were epic... Still say WRC drivers are the best racers in the world.

Ross: I've been meaning to tell you, you had asked about World Rally being on TV a few days ago. It actually is on, but tape delayed. The season is actually over now I believe but Discovery's HD channel, HD Theater, is showing the whole season in weekly one hour shows. Find more info here:

re #9 Stephen on Allmendinger's comment: I too was confused at his comments. It was like he was trying so hard not to say exactly what he meant, that he didn't make any sense at all.
TC-please go and ask him what he meant this w/e in Charlotte and let us know.
