The NASCAR Week That Was: Sept. 13-19

Fallout from the announced/intended Yates/Petty merger led the news this week. RPM VP and Managing Director of Competition Mark McArdle was fired this week after being suspended in Richmond for a heated argument with team co-owner George Gillett. It also came to light this week that RPM driver Reed Sorenson isn’t receiving a salary from the organization. In other news Hendrick Motorsports signed Mark Martin through the 2011 season. The organization, which had already signed Martin through next year, said they needed the commitment to secure sponsor GoDaddy.com. And finally Lowe’s Motor Speedway owner Bruton Smith filed suit against the City of Concord and Cabarrus County over $4 million they owe him for road work he has performed around the speedway. This is the NASCAR week that was September 13 to 19, 2009.
