Parker Kligerman, Wyler Racing, & Michael McDowell

Silly Season has picked up considerably over the last few weeks, and we’ve got a few more bits to add to the mix.

First, we are hearing that Penske Racing developmental driver Parker Kligerman, who currently co-leads the ARCA RE/MAX Series points, may run a few Nationwide Series races towards the end of the season.  Penske will supposedly field a second car for Kligerman alongside current NNS driver Justin Allgaier.  No word yet on which specific races Kligerman may run.

Also, there may be trouble brewing for Truck Series driver Stacy Compton and his Wyler Racing team.  Word is the team is low on funding and may not be able to finish out the season.  If you’ll remember, the team started out the season with no sponsorship but was able to sign SafeAuto Insurance to continue their run for the championship.  With seven races remaining, Compton is currently 12th in the driver points and has six top ten finishes in 2009.

Finally, look for Michael McDowell to be behind the wheel of a third entry for Thorsport in this weekend’s Truck Series race at New Hampshire.  The effort will be led by crew chief Tommy Baldwin with McDowell strapping into the #98 Chevy.

I’ve watched a lot of ARCA races this year, and it’s been a long time since I’ve seen a young driver as talented as Parker Kligerman. I’m overjoyed that he may get a chance to display his talents to Nationwide fans this season. One never knows how things will turn out, but this guy could be a star in Cup within a few years. I predict that he’ll draw a lot of interest from the established Cup teams.

That’s a shame about Wyler racing. Marcus Richmond is a good young crew chief.

    Wille Mac, and Kligerman can’t?

It’s pretty hard to down-play a driver than never set foot – or a wheel – on a dirt track and won against many ARCA dirt vets.

The kid has won on a wide variety of tracks including his first series victory on the Toledo Speedway half-mile oval, at Michigan Int’l Speedway (2-mile oval), Mansfield Motorsports Park (.4-mile oval), Iowa Speedway (.875-mile oval), Kentucky Speedway (1.5-mile oval), and most recently – the Illinois State Fairgrounds mile-dirt.

The kid is the real deal, and no down-playing is needed.
