The NASCAR Week That Was: Aug. 2-8

A slower than normal news week followed an emotional win for Denny Hamlin at Pocono Raceway last weekend. Buzz of a crew chief swap at Richard Petty Motorsports led the news this week. While it hasn’t happened quite yet, it sounds as if Mike Shiplett, crew chief of the #43, and Sammy Johns, crew chief of the #44, will swap positions in an effort to shake things up and improve all around performance. Tony Stewart said this weekend the likelihood of his organization going to three teams next season was not very good. Stewart, who has been rumored as a possible home for Brad Keselowski next season, said nothing had been put together for next season and the time to do so was quickly running out. And finally it was confirmed this week that Lowes would not return as the title sponsor of the Charlotte Motor Speedway. This is the NASCAR week that was August 2 to 8, 2009.

Oh lordy, here it comes: the name of the week at the tracks. There are cities where you can’t remember the name of the stadium from year to year, now it’s going to hit NASCAR. This year it’s Lowe’s, next year Nationwide Insurance, the next year Viagra Raceway, etc…

I know you guys didn’t write it, but please… tell everyone and anyone who writes a story about twitter, particularly about a particular person twittering – write that person’s twitter ID! I’m a JPM fan, and I’d like to follow him on twitter after reading that, and it would be way easier if the author had just thrown in a @juanpablomontoya, or @therealjpm (or whatever it is) in there.
