Once again Jeremy Mayfield dominated the week as he continued to defend himself against a failed drug test and subsequent suspension by NASCAR. Mayfield hired prominent Charlotte trial lawyer Bill Diehl to defend him. Among Diehl’s other famous clients are NASCAR driver Elliott Sadler, Charlotte Hornets owner George Shinn and former Carolina Panther and convicted murderer Rae Carruth. In other news NASCAR handed down their largest ever penalty to Carl Long following an engine inspection after the Sprint All-Star Showdown in Charlotte. The motor in Long’s car was found to have exceeded maximum cubic inch requirements. This is the NASCAR week that was May 17 to 23, 2009.
