This week was Champions week for the Sprint Cup Series in New York. The banquet was shown (semi) live on ESPN Classic last night. It was an awkward affair at best. But even with all the major players in New York this week for the festivities, there was no shortage of news. It was rumored all week that a Petty-Gillett Evernham merger was imminent, but as of today, nothing has materialized. Both sides still refuse to comment. Brad Keselowski benefited from the “Dale Jr. Effect” and was voted the Nationwide Series’ Most Popular Driver by the fans. The Wood Brothers announced today that they will only run 12 Cup races next season due to the tough economy and the loss of sponsorship. There were also more layoffs this week, including some in the Truck Series. Both Germain Racing and Wyler Racing cut employees due to lack of sponsorship. This is the NASCAR week that was November 30 to December 6, 2008.
