He’s Runnin’ His Mouth Again: Update

Update: The newest merger rumor is between Chip Ganassi Racing and Dale Earnhardt Inc. and guess who the biggest source behind this rumor is? None other than Felix Sabates. Lee Spencer at Fox Sports is maintaining she has several sources, while ESPN is solely quoting Sabates.

Whether this rumor is true, I am really not prepared to say. What I can say, is this merger makes far more sense than any of the others we have seen floated in the last several months. DEI has two drivers, one of whom is sponsored. Ganassi has one driver with partial sponsorship and one empty seat with full sponsorship. They fit well together.

One of the biggest sticking points is each team’s manufacturer. Ganassi is signed with Dodge through 2010 and DEI is of course a Chevrolet team. That being said, if a team wanted out of their contract bad enough it is not impossible. And with potential merger rumors between Chevrolet and Chrysler, it may not be a problem at all.

It’ll be interesting to see what ultimately pans out. However, I caution you not to get too wrapped up in this at this moment.
