The NASCAR Week That Was: Oct. 12-18

Dale Earnhardt Inc. and Petty Enterprises dominated the news this week as speculation about their futures continues and rumors of a merger between the two surfaced. Robbie Loomis, VP of racing operations at PE, said Saturday that the team has in fact spoken with several other organizations, but would neither confirm nor deny that DEI was one of those involved. In other news, Jamie McMurray’s crew chief Larry Carter is out on the #26 for 2009 as the team looks to “mix up the chemistry again.” And finally, another sign of tough economic times, Johnny Benson, who went to victory lane on Saturday, did so without a sponsor. Bill Davis Racing announced this week that Toyota Certified Used Cars would not be on the truck despite Benson competing for the Truck Series Championship. This is the NASCAR week that was Oct. 12 to 18, 2008.
