UPDATE 2: A Change On The #2 Truck? SPRAGUE OUT

Word around the Craftsman Truck Series garage this weekend was that Jack Sprague could be out at Kevin Harvick Inc. at the end of the season. Former motocross rider and current Camping World East Series driver Ricky Carmichael was floated as a possible replacement.

Sprague joined KHI this season after leaving Wyler Racing, where he had been since late in the 2005 season. This season he has five top fives and eight top 10s with an average start of 7.1 and average finish of 12.4. The three time truck series champion and 28 time winner has no wins this season.

UPDATE: It was reported late last night that Carmichael will enter the ARCA RE/MAX Series race at Talladega Superspeedway on October 3rd, and he will be driving a car prepared by none other then Kevin Harvick Inc.

This looks to be the first step in getting Carmichael ready for next season, as NASCAR will want the ex-motorcross racer to have some superspeedway experience before he is allowed to run on a big track in NASCAR competition.  Daytona CTS race anyone?

UPDATE 2: Kevin Harvick INC. announced today that Jack Sprague has been released from his contract effective immediately. We first reported that Sprague was on the outs with the team three weeks ago.

Kevin Harvick is scheduled to be in the truck for the next race in Martinsville in two weeks. According to the team, details on driver lineup for the remainder of the season and next year will be announced at a later date.

Is this just about Ricky Carmichael appealing to a younger, edgier demographic which might buy from sponsors of energy drinks, alcoholic beverages, candy, or motocross gear manufacturers?

Or is something else troubling Kevin Harvick? Does he have personal or financial problems which might not be widely known leading to anger management issues manifested by Sprague’s firing and the fight with Carl Edwards?
