NASCAR finally instituted a new drug policy this week after months of discussion following several high profile incidents. The new rule requires all drivers, officials and over-the-wall crew members to be tested prior to the beginning of the season, and additionally institutes weekly random testing. The old system, which allows NASCAR to test if there is reasonable suspicion, is still in place. In other news, the lawsuit between Gillett Evernham Motorsports and Robby Gordon Motorsports has been settled, with each party agreeing to go their separate ways. And finally, several drivers have yet to nail down plans for 2009, as speculation about where they might end up continues. Those involved include Paul Menard, AJ Allmendinger and Patrick Carpentier. This is the NASCAR week that was, September 14-20, 2008.
