Did anyone notice that David Starr was jerked out of his car? And then he tried to defend himself only to be fined $10,000. What a wimp! That was a joke.

I believe that NASCAR took into account the actions of David Starr. As you so eloquently put it, he was driving "like a madman". That is most likely why he received the monetary penalty and probation.

As for why the fines/suspensions were so slight? I think NASCAR knew they had to do something to those involved but also believed that the Germain team was IN THE RIGHT to be so pissed off. This put NASCAR in a bad position, thus the small penalties.

I was very surprised to see Todd not get involved in the fracas. He's not usually one to shy away from situations like that. None of the Bodines are.

As for the post-race contact between Bodine and Starr, if it had continued onto pit road I'm sure there would have been a penalty, but Todd bumped him on the track, pulled up along side, flipped him off (probably) and drove away. It was Starr that pursued Bodine on pit road and was stupid enough to park along side him. He should have known better, especially having taken out both the 9 and 30 trucks.

Fights are good for ratings, why discourage them with hefty fines? Just slap them on the wrist and then thank them for the extra TV time.
