The NASCAR Week That Was: August 17-23

Joe Gibbs Racing dominated the week as NASCAR dropped the hammer on them for penalities related to illegally placed magnets. Seven crew members were suspended and monetary and points fines were doled out. In other news, confirmation came that Casey Mears was the fourth driver at RCR, ending weeks of speculation about where he would end up. Chevron announced Tuesday they would be leaving NASCAR sponsorship after 20 years; they have spent the last five seasons with Chip Ganassi Racing. This move has left the #42 CGRFS Dodge only half-sponsored for next season. This is the NASCAR week that was August 17 to the 23 2008.
