There was a blurb today on Jayski from the Des Moines Register where Richard Childress said that Iowa Speedway would be great for a Nationwide Series race, possibly coupled with a Truck Series race. I cannot agree with him more.
I’ve been to Iowa Speedway a few times for different races and it is a great facility. For those who don’t know the track, its sort of like Richmond, but a touch bigger. The track sits right off Interstate 80 and has all the up-to-date amenities. Its got a nice garage area, a pit road with nice big stalls, a fan walk, and plenty of parking both inside and outside the track. There always seems to be great racing there as well, because the track setup allows for racing in many different grooves.
But I think the biggest plus about the track is the fan support. From my experience, it doesn’t really matter what series is racing, there always seems to be a good turnout.
The only perceived problem with the area though, could be the lack of local infrastructure (hotels, restaurants, etc.). But it shouldn’t be too big of an issue for NASCAR and its fans, because Newton is a decent sized little town, and Des Moines isn’t far down the road.
Iowa Speedway would be a great addition to both the Truck Series and Nationwide Series schedules. It would probably draw better then tracks like California and Kansas, and it would give a little flavor and variety to the type of tracks on the schedule.

I don’t agree but it has nothing to do with the track. The smaller teams in both the Truck and Nationwide series are struggling because the Cup regulars and Cup owners have taken the good sponsorship money and dominate the racing. The smaller teams cannot afford to chase all over the USA to race in distant venues and the Cup drivers tend to race in races that are convenient go Cup races. More distant tracks will cause many teams to go out of business.

Man O Man what is wrong with these fans, If it was not for the Sprint Drivers. Tell me who would watch Nationwide and Truck series racing. Kyle Busch like him or hate him. He has done more for Nationwide and Craftman truck series than all the other Drivers combined. Nascar should reward Kyle for the contribution he’s made to these series. I only watch to see him race. If he wants to penalize Nascar let him stop racing these series. (Can you Imagine Johnny Benson telling him how to drive. What a laugh, he tried).
