The NASCAR Life: The Community

Talk to anyone familiar with the NASCAR community and they will tell you how small it is. While this makes it incredibly difficult to break into, the atmosphere allows for close knit relationships during the good times and the bad.

The best description I can think of for the community is a small town. Anyone who has ever lived in a small town will tell you how fast news and rumors spread and this is almost always the case here too. If you do something stupid at the track or you burn a bridge somewhere chances are everyone will hear about it. Likewise if you want to hear rumors there is no better place than within the community.

Unfortunately the news around town is not always happy and when a tragedy occurs the community rallies to support their own.

Last year two tragedies struck the community with the untimely deaths of Scott “Budman” Kircher and Jimmy Sprinkle. Kircher a transport driver for Ginn Racing and father of two was killed in a motorcycle accident. The outpouring of support was immediate. Hundreds filled the shop of Ginn Racing as the community paid respects to him. Jimmy Sprinkle, a mechanic for Red Bull Racing, was murdered outside of his Taylorsville home. Again the community came together to support his grieving family. Many knew these two men, others didn’t, but the common link for those who came to support and grieve was their involvement in racing.

The support for these two men and their family’s was truly extraordinary. It is comforting to know that if something does ever happen to my loved ones, the community will help and support.

On a different note the community breeds great friendships and intense loyalties. Week in and week out for 12 months a year you travel with the people on your team working, competing and winning. You see them at work and after work and share the pain and the pleasure of working within NASCAR.

Overall the community is one that supports, helps and has fun together. While it is one of the smallest towns in America, it really is great to be a part of.
